ABOUT ME

PRIVATE TEACHING CONSULTANT

Aug 2020 - present

"Education is not just about arriving at the right answer, it is the process of building a foundation upon which our students grow, an on-going, lifelong process that if nurtured, leads us to exploration and discovery of unanswered questions.

Teaching must be coupled with an approach that is both culturally competent and one that reflects a school’s core values. The educator should act as a facilitator of the learning process, providing a tactile, memorable, and varied approach that develops a love of learning in each individual."

EDUCATION

What I’ve Learned

MSE FORT HAYS STATE UNIVERSITY

March 2016 - May 2019

An M.S.E., ESOL enables me to put theory into practice, producing effective teaching strategies to ensure the success of diverse learning styles. I am trained in assessment and data analysis of student progress that results in responsive teaching strategies. This application of teaching theory and specialization in ESOL provides me with the ability to develop culturally responsive pedagogy.

BA POLITICAL SCIENCE

August 2005 - May 2009

Advocating, writing effective policy, and mobilizing a community are skills of trained Political Scientists. This degree developed strong analytical and communication skills with an emphasis on developing a dialogue that is respectful of all parties. Civic engagement enables us to advocate for, and produce, change in our society through educating one another and policy reform.

INDEPENDENT STUDY

January 2012 - 2019

Through online learning courses such as Phliantropy University, TESOL certification courses, and EdX I continue to pursue an expanded worldview and increase my knowledge of how to create sustainable solutions for communities in the highest need and the role of education of their communities. These courses provide increased specialization in various areas related to education and government.

MY SKILLS

CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT

IMG_20210408_094649.jpg

Creating an effective, comprehensive, and culturally competent curriculum involves application of individual, small-group, and whole-group activities. These activities are an extension of lesson planning designed to support various learning styles. With clearly outlined standards in mind, assessments can take place weekly to critically reflect on teaching methodologies.

TEACHER TRAINING

The English Camp program incorporates travel to three different countries in Southeast Asia where teachers and volunteers complete an online TESOL accreditation course, volunteer orientation, lesson planning classes. I managed, developed, and oversaw the English Camp program in all three countries. Our approach was to provide hands-on learning experiences.

INSTRUCTIONAL APPROACH

IMG_20210331_091747.jpg

By employing a varied instructional approach, I can support diverse learning styles, with a mix of teacher-led whole group lessons, small group activities, and individual learning activities. This instills confidence, increases motivation, and develops natural leadership skills. Differentiated instruction allows my students to show comprehension at various levels and is supported through center rotations, scaffolding information in academic areas, and individual student goals.

ASSESSMENT STRATEGIES

Assessment, feedback, and critical reflection of instructional methods and teaching approaches helps to improve overall classroom success. I provide daily feedback to parents advising them on student progress, how to support learning at home,  and how to manage positive discipline strategies. I conduct formal and informal assessments that track weekly progress as related to state standards. This data is assessed to impact instructional methods of future lessons.
